I put this Telecaster together over the weekend. It has a Warmoth replacement body and a neck and bridge from a Fender Classic Series guitar. I cut the scratchplate out of 2mm acrylic sheet and painted the back with Plasti-Kote metallic gold paint to complete the look.
This Stratocaster was built by one of the UK’s best makers of relic guitars. The owner, who’d had it from new, complained that the back of the neck felt sticky and so it did. I found that a good clean and polish helped matters a lot, but the owner wanted the neck de-glossed. Once I’d …
This Japanese Fender Precision Bass has been the mainstay of the bassist from The Australian Pink Floyd Show for about ten years. Due to it being used for the same songs show after show, a couple of major grooves were worn in frets two and three. I therefore performed a partial refret, carefully removing the …
I just made this pickguard for a Tele fanatic. He’s making (another) Esquire, this time using the body from a Baja Telecaster. I cut the pickguard to accurate Fender dimensions (of course) and lacquered with clear gloss nitrocellulose lacquer and buffed it to a shine just like the originals. I also fitted a Texas Special …
Rob Granville kindly sent me some pictures of the Fender Mustang he recently refinished using my lacquers. I think you’ll agree its a brilliant job!

I have just refretted this maple board Telecaster. At the request of the customer I left the fretboard lacquer intact as it was virtually undamaged. I had hoped to get away without changing the nut but the 1st string slot was too low. The old nut tapped out easily enough and I cleaned up the …
I just thought I’d share this. I set up this 1983 Squier JV Precision Bass and discovered the original shim in the neck pocket, dated May 83. Needless to say, I left it there.
This was also refinished by a customer. It’s a mid 90s Mexican Fender DuoSonic re-issue with a 22″ short scale neck. David writes: “Results are great! Again I thank you for the paint – clearly excellent quality, and for the advice both on your web site and via email – invaluable. There is no way …
This was also refinished by a customer. It’s a Mexican Fender Stratocaster body with WD Music Products neck. Simon writes: “My ‘Frankenstrat’ finished with your nitro laquer. Started out as just a MIM body I’d picked up on ebay for 30 quid which some guy had stripped with a blowlamp (and probably an axe it …
