Finish Repair A customer had had an accident with his Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 5-string bass. He had dropped it and knocked a large piece of the finish off the lower edge of the guitar. I built this Les Paul Junior copy from scratch and finished in in Vintage White nitrocellulose lacquer. The body is one piece of mahogany, with a maple neck.
This Les Paul came to me badly refinished in polyurethane varnish. I completely stripped it (apart from the area around the serial number) and refinished it in nitrocellulose lacquer, using the same bronze powder pigments that would have been used originally.
Headstock repair This early 70s Les Paul Signature had suffered a headstock break many years ago and had been left unrepaired. I was told by the owner that it was this very bass that turned Peter Hook on to semi-acoustics! Luckily the owner was careful to keep all the parts and I was able to …
